The Mistwood is a strange force in Cisterra. Squeezed between The Sarai Wastes, The Wahiba Desert, The Ryushu Peninsula and the sea, the Mistwood is a dense forest habitually covered by an equally dense low-lying cloud cover. Almost naturally mysterious, the thick woods and thicker fog make visibility almost impossible inside, and the few inhabitants of the Mistwood have adapted to its strange environment.
Recorded well in Arcaro’s libraries, the Mistwood was once much larger than its current size—before the desertification of the Great Central Plains following the Siege of Arcaro, the Mistwood completely cut off Chusei from the rest of Northern Cisterra. After years of battle, alchemy, and deforestation, the Mistwood now has seemingly retreated to the sea, though some researchers (and nearly all Druids) claim that it grows larger each season, slowly retaking the land stolen from it by the Wahiba and the Sarai.
Though not terribly dangerous, the depths of the Mistwood are still seldom travelled, simply due to its out-of-the-way location and its shrouded nature that almost invites ambush by bandits and hungry beasts. Since the Ancients’ War, the trade roads between Dwarven towns and Chusei settlements have fallen into disuse, and some storytellers of House Jubaku believe that the spirit of the Mistwood turns and twists the paths mortals have carved into her in an effort to befuddle and trap those who do not respect the forest.
